Why We Will Move On...

So last week a huge bombshell erupted as we saw the results of the USA elections and many are still worrying about the effect this will have not only on the USA, but to the whole world as well. To AIESEC as well.

But there is one thing that is for certain:

We will move on as a movement that is shaping the future leaders for this world regardless of the challenges, pressures and influence we are facing, because we are taking a stand for the things that matter and positive impact in the last 68 years.

Because we have been Demonstrating Integrity and we live Integrity as our core value. And we have been doing this from the beginning.

And this is not the first time we had to prove that we are worth the values that we are standing for.

We are consistent and transparent in our decisions and actions. We fulfil our commitments and conduct ourselves in a way that is true to our vision.

AIESEC was born in an era of division and lack of understanding and communication, an era when fear of a global conflict was at a tipping point and that lasted for more then 4 decades. An era when people  were divided and many societies isolated. And yet we stood strong and developed young people, we built bridges of trust where walls of fear separated people.

And so many other challenges we overcame and we didn't fail in our mission, we didn't spoil our purpose and most of all: we didn't give in.

This is something that is admirable. Even I joined AIESEC because I saw what did it mean to Demonstrate Integrity and here is how: Because back then there was a political ruling party that approached AIESEC on my campus in order to create a partnership. This partnership was meant to connect them members of AIESEC with the political party on a very discrete way and in return AIESEC would get all the support for our products, projects and activities, both financial and by endorsements and connections. Now since all of this is happening in a Eastern European country in development where greed and corruption are a everyday reality, this is something that would be usual for youth lead organizations, something that happens on a regular basis.

But not for AIESEC.

Because we are THE Youth Leadership Movement. And we stand for something more. And we defined that in our VALUES.

The proposition was refused, they found another youth organization that was obedient and took the proposal, and we continued to struggle with our resources and to face challenges in order to gain support and be more relevant. But we were true to ourselves and our values. This party later on lost the elections and vanished, as did many others before. Heck, even the my country where AIESEC was established changed the name 5 times in the last 7 decades.

Leaders come and go, but AIESEC with it's idea stays for good.

So, don't be afraid about the future days and events, but think how you should act and how we as a Youth Leadership Movement will shape that future for the better and how our Values will drive us by doing it.
